Are Architectural Digest's 50 Most Beautiful Colleges Worth It?

Hey folks, I was looking at the Architectural Digest list of the 50 most beautiful colleges and I'm wondering how much a picturesque campus improves the college experience? Anyone been to any of these schools?

On surface level, a picturesque campus can certainly be appealing. Walking to class among well-preserved buildings and sprawling landscapes can certainly elevate the college experience. However, while aesthetics might contribute initially to a positive impression, they are usually a small facet of the holistic college experience.

Important factors that dominate the learning experience include class sizes, faculty-student interaction, research opportunities, extracurricular offerings, among others. For instance, if you value close interaction with your professors, you should be looking at class size and faculty-to-student ratio. If you're interested in getting hands-on experiences, being in a larger university with a variety of research opportunities could be beneficial.

Each of these 50 schools listed on Architectural Digest are unique in terms of their academic focus, student culture, extracurricular offerings, and resources. For instance, schools such as Stanford and Bowdoin have beautiful campuses and also happen to offer a solid academic experience. However, their campuses' beauty isn't the primary reason for their esteemed reputation.

That being said, one of the key aspects of college is your happiness and comfort. If a beautiful campus is something that you value and will enhance your college experience, then it could be something to factor into your decision. Ultimately, the choice comes down to what aspects of a college are most important to you. Your college experience will largely depend on how these factors align with your personal and academic goals.
