Will applying to at least 3 colleges increase my chances of becoming a successful car dealer?

So I'm pretty set on the idea of becoming a car dealer after high school, it's something I've been passionate about for a while. My counselor suggested applying to at least 3 colleges to keep options open. If I'm confident in my path, should I still be considering multiple colleges? Do you guys have any thoughts or experiences on this?

It's great to hear about your clear career goal of becoming a car dealer. When it comes to deciding how many colleges to apply to, especially when you are not necessarily relying on a formal education for your chosen career path, it's important to consider a few things.

Firstly, applying to multiple colleges increases your chances of acceptance, which is especially important if you want to attend a college that is highly selective. Given that you already have a set career path that doesn't necessarily require a college degree, you might be applying to colleges that have strong business or entrepreneurship programs. This could be useful in equipping you with skills that could be an asset in your career - such as learning about business management and understanding market dynamics.

Secondly, college, apart from academics, is a great opportunity to network and make connections. You can meet like-minded people and potential business contacts that can be valuable down the line.

Remember that college applications also require time, effort and money (unless you qualify for fee waivers), so apply to as many as you feel you can reasonably handle. Three is a good start, but applying to a few more may give you a wider choice of options.

In conclusion, while applying to multiple colleges can certainly open up more opportunities, you should also weigh the benefits and potential drawbacks in relation to your career plans. Your career as a car dealer won't necessarily be dependent on the number of colleges you apply to or attend, but the knowledge and networking opportunities could definitely give you a leg up.
