Understanding Popular College Majors

Hey fam! Been pondering on this a bit lately - I'm curious to know the general trends when it comes to choosing majors. Could anyone shed light on what are projected to be the most popular college majors for my year, which I think would be entering in 2024? I initially thought STEM fields would take the cake, but I heard humanities are making a come back. Any insights?

Sure, I'd be glad to provide some insights!

Firstly, it's important to note that STEM fields continue to be among the most popular majors for college students, and certain ones like Computer Science, Data Science, and Bioengineering are particularly popular due to the growth in technology and healthcare sectors. The increasing reliance on technology due to the COVID-19 pandemic has also amplified the demand for these degrees.

However, you are correct that humanities and social sciences have been seeing a resurgence. Fields like Psychology, Political Science, and Communication studies have been gaining more attention.

Interestingly, Interdisciplinary Studies, which can combine Humanities, Social Sciences and even STEM elements, have also been becoming more popular. It's a major that gives students the flexibility to curate their own areas of study based on their interests.

Another growing trend is in Environmental Science and Sustainability majors, thanks in part to heightened societal awareness of climate change and a shift towards green and renewable energy sources.

Business related majors have always been a popular choice and continue to remain so, particularly with concentrations in fields like Finance, Accounting, and Marketing.

Lastly, health-related fields like Public Health and Nursing have also seen an increase in demand due to the pandemic.

Remember, while understanding trends can be helpful, the best major for you will largely depend on your interests, career goals, and strengths, rather than what the most popular choice is.
