Are There Military Education Grants for College?

Hey folks! I've heard there might be some military education grants for college but haven't found much info. Is this a thing? If so, are there any prerequisites for it? Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, there are quite a few military education grants available that can significantly reduce the cost of higher education for military personnel (both active duty and veterans), their spouses, and dependents. Here's a few of them:

1. Post-9/11 GI Bill: For those who have at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after Sept 10, 2001, or were honorably discharged with a service-related disability. It can cover up to the full cost of in-state tuition for public colleges, a portion of the cost for private or out-of-state colleges, and can include a monthly housing allowance and an annual book stipend.

2. Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB): With two main programs, the MGIB caters to active duty members and selected reserves. The grant amount is influential and is dependent on the length and type of service, college attendance, course, or degree type.

3. Yellow Ribbon Program: A provision of the Post-9/11 GI Bill where colleges voluntarily enter into an agreement with the VA to share tuition costs that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate.

4. Military Dependent Scholarship (MyCAA): Offers up to $4,000 in financial assistance to spouses of active-duty service members in pay grades E-1 to E-5, W-1 to W-2, and O-1 to O-2 who are pursuing certificates, licenses, or associate degrees in portable career fields.

5. Survivors & Dependents Assistance (DEA): Provides education and training opportunities to beneficiaries of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition, or who died while on active duty as a result of a service-related condition.

Eligibility can vary widely between these programs and more. It's critical to read each grant's requirements carefully to understand whether you qualify. It's recommended to contact the closest VA office or your school's Veterans Services Office for personalized help in finding and applying to grant programs.
