Which Colleges are Considered Unsafe by State?

Hey ya'll! As I'm preparing to apply to colleges, I want to make sure I do my due diligence. So, what are supposedly the most unsafe colleges by state? I'd appreciate it if anyone can point me to a reliable source. Thanks!

Hello, safety is indeed a crucial factor when choosing a college! While there's no official source that regularly ranks the "most unsafe" colleges by state, you can use a few tools to investigate.

The Clery Act requires all colleges and universities that participate in federal financial aid programs to keep and disclose information about crime on and near their respective campuses. Compliance is monitored by the U.S. Department of Education, which also provides a searchable database on its website. In this database, you can find tabulated crime statistics for specific schools.

Another tool is the Campus Safety and Security Data Analysis Cutting Tool provided by the U.S. Department of Education. Here, you can find crime data, fire statistics, and other safety-related information.

Remember that the raw numbers can be misleading. A higher crime rate can sometimes just mean that the school is more diligent at reporting incidents, not necessarily that it is less safe. Always cross-reference with other sources about campus-community relationship, campus security measures, and local crime rates, to get a comprehensive picture of the actual safety environment. It can also be beneficial to reach out directly to the school to inquire about specific safety concerns.

Cheers to you for being proactive about safety during your college search!
