Eating disorders in Colleges - statistics?

This might be a touchy subject but I've been working to get past an eating disorder and I want to ensure my progress isn't hampered in college. Are there any studies on universities with high rates of eating disorders? Thanks in advance and sorry if the question is a bit sensitive.

Indeed, the transition to college can exacerbate mental health issues, including eating disorders, due to the many changes and stressors involved. The rate of eating disorders among college students is indeed an area of concern.

According to studies, an estimated 20% of college students reported having or previously having an eating disorder. Additionally, more than 35% of normal dieters progress to pathological dieting, and of those, up to 25% may progress to partial or full-syndrome eating disorders.

It's important to note, however, that these statistics don't vary dramatically between institutions, but rather it is an issue that universities as a whole are trying to address.

If this is a concern for you as you choose a college, it could be beneficial to incorporate counseling and mental health care accessibility into your decision process. Look for colleges that have robust mental health programs and proactive student wellness initiatives. These resources can be instrumental in helping students, like yourself, handle the stresses of college life in healthy ways. The presence of on-campus support groups or nearby treatment clinics is also an important factor.

While it's not possible to completely avoid all triggers, awareness, effective coping strategies, and a supportive environment can make a significant difference. Remember, no question is too sensitive when it comes to health, wellness, and comfort. Your proactive approach to managing your eating disorder risk in college is commendable.
