Diversity matter: Most diverse colleges in Pennsylvania?

Hello everyone, I'm a junior who's starting the big college search, and a crucial factor I'm considering is diversity. Can anyone tell me which colleges in Pennsylvania are known for their diversity?

Sure! When talking about diversity, it's generally divided into two main categories: racial/ethnic diversity and economic diversity. In terms of racial/ethnic diversity, a few Pennsylvania schools have stood out.

First off is Temple University in Philadelphia, which typically ranks high for racial diversity. Other schools in Philadelphia, such as Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania, are also known for their diverse student bodies.

In addition to these, Penn State University (especially the main campus University Park) has a student population from varied ethnic backgrounds. Even though it has a significant percentage of in-state students, it has been successful in attracting students from across the country and around the globe.

On the other hand, Swarthmore College, located in Swarthmore, PA, is noted for its efforts in achieving both racial and economic diversity. It boasts one of the highest percentages of Pell Grant-eligible students (a common measure of economic diversity) among top-tier schools.

Another school noteworthy for its diversity is Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, known not only for its racial and ethnic diversity but also for the diversity in academic interests of its students given its strength across many disciplines.

Remember, it's important to look beyond just statistics and rankings when considering diversity. College should ideally offer a range of perspectives, experiences, and opportunities, and that's best achieved when the student body is made up of people from different walks of life. So, if possible, try visiting campuses, contacting current students, or speaking with admissions representatives to get a full picture of the diversity at each institution.
