Finding the Best and Least Expensive Theatre College

Hey everyone, I'm really passionate about theatre and have been heavily involved in my high school's drama club. I'm looking for colleges that have strong theatre programs but won't break the bank. Does anyone have recommendations for good yet affordable theatre schools I should consider?

Sure! It's fantastic that you're considering pursuing your passion in theatre at the college level. Many colleges and universities offer solid theatre programs that won't necessarily break your bank. Here's a list of few places you may want to consider:

1. Purchase College (SUNY): This college hosts a Conservatory of Theatre Arts which is nationally recognized for its strength in theatre education. They offer several degree programs, including Acting, Design/Technology, Playwriting, Stage Management and Theatre and Performance. As a state university, the tuition costs are relatively low, especially for in-state students.

2. University of North Carolina School of the Arts: This fine arts school offers Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in several areas of theater including Design and Production and Drama. In-state tuition and fees for North Carolina students can be significantly less than out-of-state, making it a great choice for residents.

3. Indiana University: Their theatre department offers degrees like B.A. in Theatre and Drama, B.F.A. in Musical Theatre, and B.F.A in Contemporary Dance. It's a Big Ten university with solid academics and relatively affordable tuition.

4. Florida State University: Known for its strong arts programs across the board, FSU offers a B.A. in Theatre as well as B.F.A. programs in Music Theatre and Acting.

Remember to check each school's net price calculator, which can give you a better idea of what your family will actually pay after scholarships and financial aid.

Lastly, don't forget to apply for theatre-related scholarships! Some are nationwide, some are school-specific, and others are community-based. This could be another way for you to cut down on expenses. Good luck with your search!
