Military Programs at Pierce College?

Hey guys, I'm seriously considering the military after high school and I've heard Pierce College has some solid military programs. Anyone has any insights on what these programs are like, what's involved, and the pros and cons?

Pierce College does indeed offer a range of military programs, including ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps). This program gives students the opportunity to train for military service while completing their college degree. Students in the ROTC program take regular college courses along with specialized military classes and leadership training. After graduation, they commission as officers in the respective branch of the military they trained with.Typically, ROTC participants at Pierce College will take their weekly ROTC classes at the University of Washington through their crosstown agreement.

Pierce also offers a Military Technology and Leadership program to earn an associate degree to contribute toward a promotion board, which is a great option for military career advancement. This program can even be completed wholly online.

Pros of the military programs at Pierce County College:

1. They offer a disciplined and regimented structure that some students might find appealing.

2. You can potentially pursue a military career with a higher rank due to your participation in these programs.

3. They provide opportunities for scholarships and financial aid.

Cons:

1. The regimented structure might not be a good fit for everyone.

2. The commitment to military service following graduation—usually about four years active duty—is a significant one, and not something to be taken lightly.

3. Balancing military training and academic responsibilities can be challenging.

Ultimately, the decision to participate in a military program should align with your long-term career goals and personal inclinations. Take time to seriously consider your options before making a decision.
