Query on Safety: Which are the least safest colleges in California?

I'm a Cali native and thinking of attending a local college. But, I keep hearing about college safety issues. Can anyone here shed some light on which colleges here in California are considered to be the least safe?

It's important to note that measuring safety can be complex as it depends on several factors. However, based on Clery Act crime reports, which schools are required to publish, there are a few campuses in California that report higher crime rates. These reports take into account crimes committed on campus property, non-campus properties owned or controlled by the school, and public property adjacent to campus.

California State University - Humboldt and California State University - Long Beach, for instance, traditionally have seen higher reported crime rates. However, one key thing to remember is that larger schools, or schools in urban areas, are often going to have higher crime rates because they have more students and are in more densely populated areas.

Meanwhile, California State University - East Bay and University of California - Riverside also have higher reported crime rates. It's worth mentioning though, that crime is most often property-related, involving theft or burglaries, and is less likely to be crimes involving violence. And many schools are implementing new security measures to enhance safety, such as improved campus lighting, enhanced police presence, and emergency notification systems.

It's always a good idea to visit a campus in person, so you can feel for yourself whether the campus feels safe. Many schools offer night tours specifically to show prospective students their safety measures.

In the end, choosing a college should be about finding the right academic and cultural fit and there are mild risks associated with living in any location. Make sure you stay informed on safety protocols and resources offered by your eventual college selection. Good luck in your search!
