Are there particular majors that are least popular among women?

Hey guys, as a prospective female college student, I'm curious: what majors are least popular among women? I've always been intrigued by fields where women are underrepresented – it might be more challenging, but also potentially more rewarding. Anyone have any info?

Hello! I totally understand your curiosity and interest in less populated fields for women. According to various studies and reports, some fields of study in which women are still underrepresented include Computer Science, Physics, Engineering (particularly Electrical and Mechanical), and certain subfields within Economics and Philosophy.

Keep in mind that the environment can vary widely based on individual institutions, and some universities take active steps to try and balance the gender representation in these fields. However, it's also important to note that despite the underrepresentation, a large number of women pursue and succeed in these fields - you're certainly not alone if you're drawn towards them!

There's value in diversity for students and for these fields themselves, so many universities and industries are actively working to increase the representation of women (and other underrepresented groups) in these areas. In your admissions essays or interviews, you might mention your motivation and perseverance in pursuing a less populated field as a woman - it can demonstrate resilience, an important quality for college students!

But remember to choose a major based more on your passion and interest than representation statistics - college and beyond will be more enjoyable and fulfilling when you're studying something you truly love.
