Affordable Schools for International Students?

Hey guys, I'm an international student and the costs can get wild. Do you have any info on which colleges are known to give the most financial aid to international students? Preferably ones that aren't super-duper hard to get into.

Sure, I can provide some information on that. Firstly, if you're talking about the U.S., remember that public universities often have limited funding for international students, so private universities usually offer more generous financial aid packages.

One option is Berea College, a small liberal arts college in Kentucky. Berea is unique because it's one of the few schools that extends its no-tuition promise to international students. Although you would have to pay for room and board, and personal expenses, this is significantly less than what most students pay at U.S. colleges.

Another is Macalester College in Minnesota. While it is more competitive than Berea, it is not as selective as Ivy League universities. Macalester is committed to meeting 100% of demonstrated financial need for all admitted students, including internationals.

The University of Richmond in Virginia also has a good reputation for providing financial aid to international students, where it guarantees to meet 100% of demonstrated financial need for accepted students.

In the Midwest, Grinnell College, a small liberal arts institution in Iowa, is another school known for providing substantial financial aid to international students.

Lastly, don't forget about liberal arts colleges in general. Even though they are private and sometimes have high sticker prices, many of them have sizable endowments and are able to offer good financial aid packages. Some other notable ones include Skidmore College in New York, and Trinity College in Connecticut.

It's important to note that these schools are all relatively competitive, so just make sure to keep a balanced college list with match, reach, and safety schools. Use the net price calculator on each school's website to get an estimate of what you might be expected to contribute towards your education.

In addition to looking for schools that offer generous financial aid, consider applying for outside scholarships that are open to international students as well. Every little bit can help lower the cost of your education. Good luck!
