State with Fewest Colleges

I'm starting to look at colleges but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with the huge number of them. Just for my sanity, does anyone know which state has the least amount of colleges?

There's a bit of variation depending on the types of institutions you're considering, but generally speaking, Alaska often holds the title for the state with the fewest colleges. Alaska has a limited number of institutions, with a tally that includes the University of Alaska system (which has campuses in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Southeast), Alaska Pacific University, and a few others. However, remember that each institution usually houses a diverse array of programs, so even though there are fewer options in terms of separate institutions, you also might find a wide range of studies within those options.
