Military Courses that Give College Credit?

I was wondering if there are any military courses that can give me college credit. I would love to further my education while in service. Any idea or reference would be much appreciated.

Many branches of the U.S. military offer educational programs that can translate into college credit. The American Council on Education (ACE) works in conjunction with the DoD to evaluate military training and experiences for academic credit, creating a bridge between military education and civilian institutions.

The Army, for example, has the American Council on Education Registry Transcript System (AARTS) which automatically records your military training, courses, and occupation. The ACE then recommends college credits based on what you have completed. Similarly, the Sailor/Marine American Council on Education Registry Transcript (SMART) does the same for those serving in the Navy and Marines.

In the Air Force, the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) is a federally chartered degree-granting institution that provides enlisted Airmen with an opportunity to earn an associate degree in their career field.

The U.S. Coast Guard Institute evaluates Coast Guard training for college credit recommendations as well. The Coast Guard even has a partnership with Excelsior College, allowing service members to earn a degree online while serving.

Your Joint Services Transcript (JST) will include a summary of military coursework and occupational experiences recommended for college credit by ACE, as well as nationally recognized tests you've taken, such as CLEP or DSST exams, which can also give college credit.

Remember, though, that not all colleges will accept all credits, and it can depend hugely on the exact college and specific course of study you're pursuing. Always consult with the registrar or admissions office at your desired college or university to understand their policies.
