Finding a Military Friendly HBCU College

Hi, everyone! Has anyone come across HBCUs that are particularly supportive of military students? I've been looking into both options and it would be amazing if I could find the best of both worlds.

Absolutely, many HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) serve military students very well. A lot of them offer ROTC programs or have dedicated Veterans Affairs offices that cater to the needs of active-duty students or veterans. While many HBCUs could be considered 'military friendly', a couple come to mind as top options.

One is Howard University, in Washington, D.C. They offer an Army ROTC program and have an office of Veteran Affairs to assist military-affiliated students. Being located in D.C., Howard also provides students with access to a plethora of internship and job opportunities in the defense sector.

Another is Norfolk State University in Virginia, which also offers Army ROTC and has a dedicated Veterans Affairs annex. Plus, its location in a region abounding with military installations – including the world’s largest, Naval Station Norfolk - makes it an ideal choice.

Both institutions, like many HBCUs, also participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program, which helps to offset tuition costs for veterans.

However, what makes a school 'military friendly' can vary greatly depending on your personal needs and aspirations. It could be worth reaching out directly to the institutions you're interested in to ask about their specific military student services. They could provide more detailed information about financial aid, counseling services, career resources, housing flexibility, and more – all of which can make your college experience as a military student more rewarding.
