Hey guys, I've been considering some HBCUs because they offer great programs in my field of interest, but I'm a bit hesitant because I'm white. Can anyone share what the experience is like for non-black students at HBCUs? Is the social scene inclusive?
Hello! Plenty of white students attend HBCUs and have a really positive experience. The programs offered are generally rigorous and rewarding, and they find the campus community to be welcoming and inclusive.
Some students recommend taking the initiative and getting involved in a variety of clubs and organizations early on, which can help immensely with the social scene. Like any college, a student's experience is largely what they make of it. If you're open, willing to learn from others, and active in campus life, you'll find your place.
It's important, of course, to be respectful and aware of the school's cultural and historical significance. But from what I’ve seen, HBCUs take pride in their diverse student body and work to foster an environment where everyone can thrive.
