Sussing out the school spirit: colleges with the most spirit?

Hey, fellow high schooler here! I've always been really into things like pep rallies and homecoming at my high school, and I definitely want to take that love of school spirit with me to college. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know which colleges tend to be known for having a lot of school spirit? Thanks in advance!

Several schools stand out for their overflowing school spirit. Here are a few:

1. University of Michigan (UMich): This school tends to top many lists for having some of the highest school spirit in the country. From their packed football stadiums to their extensive alumni network showing their Wolverine pride, the atmosphere is truly something to behold.

2. Penn State: Known for their "WE ARE" chant and white-out football games, Penn State exudes school spirit, and their tradition of THON, a 46-hour charity dance marathon, further exhibits the spirit of the student body.

3. University of Alabama: Find Tide pride everywhere! Their football program historically has been a strong focus of the university, and the Southern hospitality extends into the enthusiastic spirit at every game.

4. University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin): You would be hard-pressed to find someone in Austin, TX, not wearing their school colors on game day. The enthusiasm spills into the academics as well, where the Longhorns are proud of their strong programs.

5. University of Florida (UF): UF consistently ranks highly for their school spirit. Their mascot, Albert the Alligator, is a recognizable symbol of that spirit.

6. University of Notre Dame: From 'touchdown Jesus' to the iconic golden dome, Fighting Irish pride is woven into the very fabric of campus life.

Of course, the spirit of a school isn't restricted to the strength or visibility of its athletic programs. Many smaller schools and those with less of a focus on athletics also have strong community spirit and pride. It's key to remember the spirit can be nourished by other means like a tight-knit campus community, signature traditions, robust student organizations, and more. For example, Swarthmore College, a smaller liberal arts college, is known for their quirky traditions and strong community spirit despite not having a dominant athletics scene.

Overall, investigating into the campus life, traditions, and events of your prospective universities can provide a decent sense of the school spirit. You can reach out to current students or alumni, or visit campus if possible.
