Does Hunter College Require Letters of Recommendation for Undergrad Admissions?

Hi there, I'm in my junior year and considering applying to Hunter College for undergrad. However, I'm unsure about their policy on letters of recommendation. Are they necessary or optional? If anyone has experience with this and could share, I'd be really grateful.

Hunter College, which is a part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system, does not require letters of recommendation for their undergraduate admissions process. They base their admission decision mainly on your high school GPA and curriculum rigor. Certain programs like the Macaulay Honors College do require 2 letters of recommendation, but if you're applying to the general undergraduate program, you're not obligated to submit any recommendation letters.

However, even though recommendation letters aren't required, it might still be beneficial to submit them, especially if they can provide valuable insights into your abilities, character, and passions that aren't apparent elsewhere in your application. Just make sure that you're selecting individuals who know you well and can write a strong recommendation, like a teacher who can speak to your academic abilities, or a coach or supervisor who can speak to your leadership skills or dedication.

Remember, an impressive recommendation letter can sometimes tip the scales in your favor, in a competitive admission context. So, while not imperative for application to Hunter College, it might still hold substantial weight in making your application more compelling.
