Swim Team at a Military Academy?

I love swimming and I'm thinking about pursuing it at the college level, but I'm also considering a military academy for college. Does anyone know if military academies have swim teams and what athletic opportunities look like at these institutions?

Yes, absolutely. Most military academies, including the United States Naval Academy (USNA), the United States Military Academy (USMA, also known as West Point), and the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA), have competitive swim teams.

Just to give you a sense of the caliber of these programs: the USNA's men's swimming and diving team has been a dominant force in the Patriot League while they also compete in NCAA Division I. The USAFA men's and women's swim teams compete in the Mountain West Conference, also at the NCAA Division I level. West Point's men's and women's swim teams compete in the Patriot League.

Unlike many other collegiate sports programs, the swim teams at military academies often practice year-round, due to the physical fitness they aim to maintain. During the academic year, the schools compete against other colleges in dual meets, invitationals, conference championships, and potentially the NCAA championships.

In terms of general athletic opportunities, all cadets at military academies are required to participate in some form of athletics - be it varsity, club, or intramural sports. Each academy values physical fitness and teamwork as critical components of a balanced cadet life.

Be aware that, in addition to your swim team obligations, you will be expected to maintain a demanding schedule that includes rigorous academic coursework and military training.
