Active Duty and College in Texas?

I'm both eager and nervous about this whole process, so bear with me. I'm a high school junior and I plan on enlisting in the military post-graduation, but also want to further my education in Texas. Does anyone know which Texas colleges have provisions for active duty military personnel?

Definitely understand that balancing military service and furthering your education is a challenging yet rewarding path. Texas definitely has colleges that are military-friendly and provide services for active duty military personnel.

1. University of Texas, Austin (UT Austin): UT Austin has the Student Veteran Services that aims to provide a smooth transition from military life to student life for veterans and active duty military personnel.

2. Texas A&M University: Texas A&M houses the Veteran Resource and Support Center, which assists active duty military, veterans, and their family members with the resources and services they need to be successful in their academic career.

3. Texas State University: Texas State has a dedicated office known as the Veterans Affairs Office that helps veterans and currently serving personnel with their academic goals.

It's important to note that you will also have access to the Post-9/11 GI Bill, which can help cover the cost of tuition, housing, books, and supplies for the institutions where you hope to further your education. You might also benefit from the Hazelwood Act, which is specifically designed for Texas residents who are veterans and active duty military. This program can potentially cover the tuition and fee expenses for up to 150 hours of higher education at public colleges and universities in Texas.

Remember, each university has its own set of criteria and conditions that need to be met for being considered an active duty student or veteran. It's best to check the websites of these universities or reach out to their Veteran Affairs offices for the most specific and up-to-date information.
