Served with Honor: Seeking the Most Veteran-Friendly Colleges

I'm a Junior and a future veteran. I'm already thinking about my college options after completing my military service. Do any of you know which colleges are considered 'veteran-friendly'? How do they support veterans?

Certainly, there are several universities across the country that are highly supportive of veterans and have made significant strides in providing resources and services aimed at their specific needs.

1. Arizona State University is notably veteran-friendly and is known for its Pat Tillman Veterans Center, which provides support for veteran and military-affiliated students. They also offer programs that connect incoming student veterans with student veterans already on campus in order to help them navigate college life.

2. The University of South Florida also has a comprehensive Office of Veteran Success which provides numerous services targeting the needs of military veterans. These services range from academic advising and financial aid assistance to career development and counseling services.

3. Similarly, George Washington University is renowned for its comprehensive services for veterans. The university's Veteran Services office gives veterans access to career development and counseling services to aid in their transition from military to civilian life.

4. Lastly, The University of Texas at Austin also has an established Student Veteran Services office. It provides reliable academic and administrative support services to ensure that student veterans and military-affiliated students successfully meet their educational and personal goals.

It's also worth noting that many colleges accept the GI Bill, which can greatly help with your educational expenses.

All in all, look for universities with comprehensive veteran support services. This may include academic advising, career resources, counseling services, peer mentor programs, student veteran associations, and more. Reach out to the universities you are interested in to see what services they specifically provide for veteran students.
