The whole deal about colleges superscoring

Yo, I was wondering if someone could enlighten me about this superscoring concept. Do most colleges superscore? And if so, do they do it for both the SAT and ACT, or just one? Thoughts?

Superscoring is a policy adopted by some colleges wherein they consider your highest individual section scores across all the times you've taken a certain test. In essence, they construct the highest possible composite score from different attempts. For example, if you took the SATs twice, scoring 700 in Math the first time and 650 in Reading and Writing, and then on your second attempt scoring 650 in Math and 700 in Reading and Writing, a super-scoring college would take your highest Math (700) and highest Reading and Writing (700) score, creating a super score of 1400.

Now, to the question of which schools do this; the answer is, it varies. Some universities will super score only the SAT, others will super score only the ACT, while others might super score both tests. On top of this, some colleges do not super score at all. It's crucial that you research the specific policies of each college you are interested in.

It's also important to note that regardless of whether a school super scores, colleges will typically still be able to see all your test scores. While they will consider the highest scores for their official calculations due to their superscoring policy, your lower scores won't be completely ignored. However, if a school does super score, they're acknowledging that they care most about your best performance on test day.

Overall, superscoring can come as a great advantage to students who perform inconsistently across different sections or different test dates. If you realize that a university you are interested in does super score, strategically it might be beneficial for you to take a test more than once, focusing on improving in one section each time.
