Aesthetics and College Campuses

I'm someone who really values a beautiful campus environment. Which colleges would you say are the 'most aesthetic'? I realize this is probably subjective, but I'd love to hear some opinions.

Absolutely, a college's aesthetic does hold appeal for many students and can play a part in how enjoyable your time on campus is.

With its Ivy-covered buildings, Yale University is often noted for its Collegiate Gothic architecture that can make you feel like you're studying at Hogwarts. Apart from the splendid architecture, the campus also boasts a beautiful central courtyard known as Beinecke Plaza.

Another institution known for its stunning views is Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. Its location on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean offers breathtaking vistas of the coastline. Students are often awed by these views from their hillside dorms.

Princeton University's campus is characterized by a harmonious blend of traditional and modern architecture. Nassau Hall, one of Princeton's most iconic buildings, is a great example. The campus also features lush gardens and sculptures.

Duke University boasts the exquisite Duke Chapel and the Sarah P. Duke Gardens. Both are popular spots for students to unwind, and they contribute to Duke's overall aesthetic appeal.

Swarthmore College is worth mentioning, too. Its campus is an officially designated arboretum, featuring an amphitheater modeled after an ancient Greek theater and Crum Woods, a large forested area with walking trails.

In the Pacific Northwest, the University of Washington's campus in Seattle is lauded for its landscaping, particularly for the Quad section, with its blooming cherry blossom trees every spring. The view of Mount Rainier on sunny days adds a lot to the campus's aesthetic appeal.

Of course, beauty is subjective, and these are just a few examples. You'd certainly benefit from visiting campuses (either in-person or virtually) to find the aesthetics that suit you!
