US Military Medical College in Georgia?

Hi folks, I've heard about a US military medical college in Georgia. Could anyone share details or provide info about this? Looking to get into a military healthcare career post-high school. Thanks in advance for any insight!

You're probably referring to the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), which is based in Bethesda, Maryland, not Georgia. The USUHS is effectively a medical school for the military. What's unique about USUHS is that in addition to the regular medical school curriculum, it offers military-specific courses and training.

When you graduate from USUHS, you will be a commissioned officer, thereby ensuring you a military medical career. From there, you'll have the added benefit of having your medical school loan paid off by the government, in return for a 7-year commitment to serve in the military healthcare system.

However, if you're particularly interested in Georgia, you might be thinking of the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University. While it's a civilian school and not directly linked to the military, you can potentially acquire a military scholarship that can pay for your medical school at MCG, in exchange for a service commitment in the military after graduation.

Each of the military branches (Army, Navy, Air Force) offers the Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP), which pays for tuition, books, and some living expenses. In return, you owe a year of service for each year of your scholarship, with a minimum obligation typically around four years.

Remember, these paths are highly competitive and fulfilling. It could be worth reaching out to current students in these programs or military recruiters for more personalized advice and information regarding application processes and prerequisite qualifications. Good luck with your pursuit of a military healthcare career!
