Military Programs that cover daughters' college tuition?

Hey everyone! My dad served in the military and I heard some chat about programs that would cover college tuition for children of active-duty service members or veterans. Does anyone have information on these?

Hello! There are indeed programs available to children of service members and veterans that can help cover tuition costs. One of the most prominent ones is the Post-9/11 GI Bill. This program allows eligible service members and veterans to transfer their benefits to a dependent. If your father qualifies and has not used all his GI Bill benefits, he may be able to transfer the remaining benefits to you. The benefits can cover up to full tuition for in-state students at public colleges and universities, and there is also a yearly allowance for books and supplies.

Another program to look into is the Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance (DEA) Program, which provides education and job training to dependents of veterans who are either permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition, died while on active duty, or died due to a service-related condition.

If your parent suffered a service-connected death or is rated as 100% disabled due to service, you may be eligible for benefits under the Fry Scholarship. This scholarship could cover your full tuition at public colleges in your state, among other benefits.

Just remember that the specifics of these programs can be complex, and your eligibility may depend on several factors, such as the duration of your father's service and his disability status. Make sure to check the official U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs website for the most accurate and detailed information.

Additionally, several states have their own scholarship and grant programs for dependents of veterans, so it's worth checking if there are any such programs in your state. You should also reach out to your college's financial aid office as additional resources may be available.
