Connection between Tech Companies and College Graduates

As an incoming CS major, I'm really interested in knowing which colleges are frequently tapped by top tech companies for new hires. Any information around this?

Absolutely, this is a great question as it's good to know which schools have a strong pipeline to major tech companies.

Let's start with the West Coast where many tech giants are located. Stanford University and University of California, Berkeley, both have strong relationships with tech companies due to their proximity to Silicon Valley. This location allows their students frequent opportunities for internships, co-op programs, and networking events. Companies like Apple, Google, and Facebook regularly recruit from these universities.

Moving up north, the University of Washington has close ties with Microsoft and Amazon as both have headquarters in nearby Seattle. Microsoft even sponsors a lot of events and academic programs at the University of Washington.

On the East Coast, Carnegie Mellon University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Harvard University also have solid reputations for their computer science programs. Tech companies such as Google, Microsoft, and Amazon often hire graduates from these institutions.

Lastly in the Midwest, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is known for its computer science program, with alumni placed in companies like Microsoft, Google, and Intel. In fact, several notable tech leaders, such as the co-founders of YouTube and Yelp, graduated from here.

While this list is not exhaustive and there are many more universities that have strong relationships with top tech companies, these are some of the most recognized when it comes to feeding into the tech industry. Remember, at the end of the day, these companies care about your skill set more than the name of your school, so any college with a strong CS program could potentially lead to a job in your desired field.
