How active are college students outside of academics?

Future college student here, pretty curious about something! I recently stumbled upon some data that was ranking college majors by their level of physical activity. It made me wonder about how active our lives are likely to be in college, depending on our major. Particularly, do you guys think 'least physically active' majors impact your health or lifestyle? Let me know your thoughts!

Physical activity in college isn't particularly tied to choice of major, but is rather a function of personal habits, hobbies, and commitments outside academia. Every university offers a plethora of opportunities to stay active outside the classroom, whether it's participating in intramural sports, using the campus fitness center, joining various active clubs, or just enjoying outdoor spaces available on or off-campus.

It's also important to consider that 'physically active' shouldn't be conflated with 'healthy.' Those in less physically demanding majors might not move as much in the classroom, but that doesn't mean they can't be living healthy lifestyles. Health is multifactorial, not only influenced by physical exercise but also by mental wellbeing, adequate sleep, stress management, and balanced nutrition.

For instance, engineering students might spend a lot of time studying or in labs, but they might also join the running club, intramural soccer, or practice yoga as a way to balance their schedules. Theatre majors, who may be physically quite active in their courses, may invest just as much time in maintaining mental health as they do in keeping fit.

So, while your course of study may not inherently determine how much you move, the decision to incorporate physical activity into your daily routine regardless of major can greatly contribute to a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle. Your major will certainly impact your daily schedule and responsibilities, but university life is full of opportunities to stay physically active. It's all about striking the right balance for you.
