Identifying Liberal Colleges in New York

Hey guys! I'm looking for colleges that have a liberal leaning in New York. Can anyone suggest some and possibly talk about their experience?

Sure, I can definitely assist you with some liberal-leaning colleges in New York - although keep in mind everyone's experiences at these colleges could be different!

1. New York University (NYU): Known for its vibrant student body and political engagement, NYU is located in Manhattan and attracts many liberal-minded students. Many students appreciate its presence in the global city of New York, which offers diverse cultural experiences and opportunities for social activism.

2. Sarah Lawrence College: Located just north of NYC in Bronxville, Sarah Lawrence is known for its open curriculum and focus on individualized study, which attracts many liberal students. The college is known for its strong programs in the humanities and performing arts, and its emphasis on discussion-based learning.

3. The New School: Located in Greenwich Village, The New School is highly regarded for its programs in the arts, design, and social sciences. Its liberal-leaning reputation is reflected in its commitment to social issues and its emphasis on critical thinking and creativity.

4. Vassar College: Although it's a bit further from NYC (based in Poughkeepsie), Vassar is one of the historic Seven Sisters liberal arts colleges and is known for its liberal student body. The college is also recognized for its strong programs across the humanities and sciences, and its commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Keep in mind, each of these institutions hosts a variety of opinions and perspectives. While they may lean towards the liberal side, that certainly doesn't mean conservative or moderate views aren't represented on their campuses. College is a place for open dialogue and understanding, so being exposed to different viewpoints can be an invaluable aspect of the experience.

One piece of advice I have is to fill your college list with schools that align with your own beliefs but can also provide a variety of perspectives. It's also worth noting that although a campus student body lean towards one political side, it doesn't mean everyone there will hold the same beliefs. College is a time for growing and expanding your knowledge, so don't be afraid to expose yourself to a variety of perspectives!
