What do college acceptance rates for med schools typically look like?

Hey there, so I've heard that some colleges have higher med school acceptance rates than others. Which ones are known for this? It's pretty important for my pre-med aspirations, and I'd appreciate any insights. Thanks in advance!

Firstly, keep in mind that college "med school acceptance rates" are a bit of an outdated measurement. The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) no longer collects data on undergrad-prepared applicants due to changes in data collection methods, so any published "med school acceptance rate" should be taken with a grain of salt. It's important to understand that college doesn't really matter as much for getting into medical school. What matters are your MCAT scores, your GPA, your clinical/research experiences, your letters of recommendation, and your essays and interviews.

That being said, some colleges are known to have strong pre-medicine programs and supportive environments which could potentially lead to higher med school acceptance rates indirectly. These colleges typically have rigorous science programs and many resources for pre-med students, including strong advising systems and opportunities for research:

- Harvard University

- Johns Hopkins University

- Stanford University

- University of Pennsylvania

- Duke University

Another factor you might consider is "feeder schools" to med schools. These are schools that consistently send a high number of graduates to medical schools. Some examples are:

- University of California—Berkeley

- University of Florida

- University of Texas at Austin

- University of Michigan

Again, though, what's most important is that you find a college where you feel you can excel acadically, have access to opportunities for meaningful clinical and research experiences, and have a supportive pre-health advising system. Try to prioritize those aspects over any published "med school acceptance rate".
