The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, is known for its distinctive structures and traditions rooted in military discipline, leadership, and character development. Its Corps of Cadets program is mandatory for all undergraduates, so the campus community has an atmosphere of camaraderie and strong discipline among students.

As far as academics are concerned, The Citadel offers 36 majors and 45 minors for undergraduates. The curriculum heavily focuses on leadership and ethics. Some of the more popular majors include Business Administration, Engineering, and Criminal Justice. The student-faculty ratio is 11:1, which aids in fostering a dynamic and intimate learning environment.

As for special programs, the Krause Center for Leadership and Ethics is particularly notable. It offers all cadets leadership training and development opportunities, including the Principled Leadership Symposium, the Leadership Day, and the Citadel Symposium on Southern Politics. Furthermore, study abroad programs at the school have gained momentum, enabling students to further broaden their global perspective and cultural competency.

All cadets are required to participate in ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) programs, but they are not required to go into military service upon graduation. This military-style education framework is what makes The Citadel stand out - it emphasizes structure, discipline, and leadership skills that transfer well into any career path.

The college prides itself on producing highly principled and capable graduates ready for all walks of life. Typically, about a third of each graduating class commissions as officers in every branch of U.S. military service.

Remember, The Citadel's military-style structure isn't for everyone, and that's perfectly okay. It's just about understanding what you want out of your college experience. However, if you're excited about the prospect of personal and intellectual growth within a unique, structured environment, The Citadel might just be a good fit for you.
