Non-College-Educated Military Personnel?

This might be a long shot, but does anyone know what percentage of our military is not college educated? While I know many enlisted men and women have degrees, I'm curious about these numbers. Is the military predominantly composed of degree holders or non-degree holders?

The U.S. military is composed of both degree holders and non-degree holders. However, the requirement of a college degree often varies by rank and role.

For instance, enlisted personnel, who make up about 82% of the U.S. military, typically do not need a college degree to enlist. They make up the bulk of the military labor force and usually enter the military after obtaining a high school diploma or its equivalent and completing the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). Some enlisted personnel might choose to pursue higher education during or after their military service but this is not a prerequisite for their roles.

On the other hand, officers, who represent about 18% of the military, are generally required to have at least a Bachelor's degree. These individuals hold managerial roles in the military and often go through more rigorous training.

Still, it's important to note that both enlisted personnel and officers have numerous opportunities for further education and professional growth while serving. The military offers a range of programs aimed at developing the skills and education of servicemen and women, which can vary from technical training to full scholarships for bachelor's and advanced degrees.

So in direct answer to your question, the military is predominantly composed of non-degree holders, given that the majority of military personnel are enlisted. However, there are many opportunities for military personnel to advance their education both during and after their service.
