Most Expensive College by State

Okay, so here's a weird one. I've been wondering: what's the most expensive college in each state? Like, which college tops the list in California, New York, Florida, and so on? I'm not necessarily planning to go there (obviously), just super curious. Anybody know where I could find this info?

Unfortunately, I don't think you'll be able to find one single reliable list that covers the most expensive college in every state in the U.S., as tuition, room and board, and other costs can vary greatly from year to year and can also depend on whether you're in-state or out-of-state, if the school is private or public, and so forth. There's no existing comprehensive list that I'm aware of, unfortunately.

However, if you're specifically curious about a few states, like the ones you mentioned (California, New York, Florida), I can provide a bit of information. As of the 2024-2025 academic year:

- California: Stanford University is generally considered one of the most expensive. It's a private institution and the tuition fee, including room and board, usually ranks quite high.

- New York: Columbia University, another private Ivy League institution, tends to top out the list in the state of New York.

- Florida: University of Miami is a private institution and it generally sits at the top of the most expensive list for Florida.

Remember, "most expensive" doesn’t necessarily mean it’s unaffordable. Some of these schools, like Stanford and Columbia, have generous financial aid policies, where families that make under a certain amount pay no tuition or even no cost at all!

If you have any other states in mind, I'd be glad to do some more digging!
