Swinging into college: What colleges offer the most golf scholarships?

As a junior golfer in high school, I'm curious, do any of you know which colleges tend to offer the most scholarships for golf? This might significantly influence my application list.

When it comes to golf scholarships, it's important to note that there are both NCAA and non-NCAA schools that offer athletic scholarships for golf.

For Division I NCAA schools, each school can offer up to 4.5 scholarships for men's teams and up to 6 scholarships for women's teams. However, Division II NCAA schools can only offer 3.6 scholarships for men's teams and 5.4 for women's teams. Division III schools, on the other hand, do not provide athletic scholarships, but they do offer financial aid packages and academic scholarships.

Some Division I NCAA schools with strong golf programs include Stanford University, Florida State University, and the University of Alabama. These universities consistently rank high in various collegiate golf rankings, indicating a strong commitment to their golf teams, which often translates into a higher likelihood of scholarship availability.

Non-NCAA schools also offer golf scholarships. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) are good examples. What's unique to these associations is that they don't have a preset limit on the number of scholarships a school can offer, which potentially could yield more opportunities.

When building your application list, it's wise to consider not only schools with strong golf programs but also which schools match your academic interests and have the right culture for you.

Remember, you'll want to get in touch with the university's golf coaches early in your high school career and send them your golfing resume to express your interest in the program. Some coaches even offer scouting opportunities. It's essential to be proactive in this process!
