Competitive atmosphere at Cal Tech and Georgia Tech?

Hey all. So, I've heard some rumors about Cal Tech and Georgia Tech having an uber intensive competition among students. Is this true? Has anyone experienced this? I'd love to hear from those who attend/attended these schools.

Certainly, both of these institutions, Cal Tech and Georgia Tech, are prestigious and rigorous in their academic programs. The student bodies are made up of high achievers, many of whom were top of their class in high school. However, the narrative around internal competition really does depend on personal perspective and your chosen field of study.
