Top Colleges with Broadway Alumni?

Hello folks! Developing my passion for theater has been a big part of my high school years, and I'd really like to continue that in college and maybe even turn it into a career. Therefore, I really want to apply for colleges that have a good reputation in the theater arts and that have also produced successful Broadway artists. Can anyone provide some insight on which colleges might fit that description?

Absolutely! There are quite a few colleges that have strong theater programs and have alumni who have gone on to successful Broadway careers.

Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is one such school. They offer an esteemed Drama program that is well-known for producing successful Broadway actors. CMU has produced a plethora of Tony Award-winning alumni, including Judith Light, Billy Porter, and Josh Gad.

New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts is another notable institution for aspiring Broadway stars. Tisch has a strong focus on performing arts and has alumni like Idina Menzel and Bebe Neuwirth, who have both made their names on Broadway.

Juilliard, also based in New York City, is renowned for training many successful actors. Although admission is highly competitive, the school's rich history and comprehensive acting program have propelled many alumni to Broadway stardom, including famous names like Patti LuPone and Kelli O’Hara.

University of Michigan's School of Music, Theater, and Dance has a robust musical theater program, which has produced Broadway stars like Celia Keenan-Bolger and Gavin Creel.

Finally, the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) has a strong musical theatre program. Alumni like Betsy Wolfe, Jason Gotay, and Christy Altomare all have made it to Broadway.

Something important to remember is that while these colleges are known for their theater arts programs and Broadway alumni, a lot of the work in developing yourself as an actor will still be up to you. All these programs provide great training, but the networking, auditioning, and continual skill development will be crucial for you to find success in the theater world.
