Can someone give me the rundown on HBCUs in Tennessee?

I'm a high school junior from the Midwest, and I'm interested in possibly attending an HBCU in Tennessee. Can anyone from Tennessee or familiar with the area tell me what the different HBCUs there offer, in terms of majors, extracurriculars, and internship opportunities?

Hey there! As a parent of a college student who spent quite a bit of time researching schools in Tennessee, I've got a bit of insight that might help. Tennessee is home to several HBCUs, each with its own unique vibe and offerings.

Fisk University, for instance, is known for its strong liberal arts programs and history of social activism. It's a smaller school, which could mean more personalized attention in your studies.

Then there's Tennessee State University in Nashville, which is a bit larger and has a variety of majors across different fields, including notable programs in business, engineering, and health sciences. They also offer a wealth of extracurriculars, with more than 100 student organizations and a vibrant Greek life scene. TSU's location in Nashville means there are plenty of internship opportunities in industries that the city is known for, like music and health care.

Lastly, don't overlook Meharry Medical College if you're interested in health sciences—it's one of the nation’s oldest and most respected medical schools. As with any college choice, I'd recommend visiting if you can, talking to current students or alumni, and reaching out to the admissions offices to ask about specifics related to your interests and goals. Good luck with your search!
