Colleges Producing the Most Diplomats

My dream career is in diplomacy. So, I'm wondering, are there specific colleges known for having a high proportion of graduates who go on to become diplomats?

Indeed, there are several colleges and universities known for their strong programs in International Relations and Political Science, areas of study which traditionally lead to careers in diplomacy. Georgetown University, located in Washington D.C., is famous for its School of Foreign Service. Many Georgetown alumni have pursued successful careers in diplomacy, thanks to its prime location and excellent faculty.

Similarly, Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington D.C. is renowned in this field. The school is in close proximity to many international embassies and organizations, providing potential networking opportunities. Harvard University also has a strong Government Department and a prominent Kennedy School of Government which are both known for producing successful diplomats.

In the west, Stanford University offers an interdisciplinary International Relations program that exposes students to a variety of political, economic and cultural aspects of the global community.

In addition to these traditional institutions, many graduates from liberal arts colleges, like Middlebury and Swarthmore, have found success in the field of diplomacy. These schools provide rigorous academic programs in International Relations and offer the ability to develop a broad, multifaceted skill set.

It's also important to look at the opportunities each school provides for internships, study abroad programs, and language studies, as these experiences are often invaluable to a future career in diplomacy. As an aspiring diplomat, you would likely want a robust international experience during your undergraduate years.

Remember, while these schools have strong reputations, it's not just about the name or prestige of your school that will determine success in a diplomatic career. Fully utilizing resources available to you, gaining relevant experiences, and demonstrating commitment to your future in diplomacy can make you a compelling candidate regardless of the school you attend.
