Universities and Sustainability?

I am thinking about studying environmental science and it's really important to me that my future college is making efforts to be more sustainable. So, just curious, which colleges recycle the most? Any input would be tremendously appreciated!

There's a growing emphasis on sustainability in colleges across the United States, which is fabulous given your interest in environmental science. Here are a few universities that are known for their significant recycling efforts.

1. Stanford University: The school has numerous recycling programs in place and manages to divert around 65% of their total waste from landfills, with aims to achieve zero waste by 2030.

2. University of California, Irvine: UCI's waste diversion rate from landfills is approximately 82%, achieved through composting, recycling, and other waste reduction strategies,

3. College of the Atlantic: Known for its environmental focus, this school recycles or composts over 10,000 pounds of waste each year.

4. North Carolina State University: NC State has an extensive recycling program and has goals to divert 70% of its waste by 2022.

5. Dickinson College: Dickinson's waste diversion rate is over 65%, through composting dining hall waste, recycling, and other initiatives.

These are just a few examples, and many other universities have impressive recycling operations and sustainability initiatives, but these are standout examples. For your specific situation, consider not only recycling efforts but also a school's overall commitment to sustainability - such as through offering majors and courses in environmental sciences, having green buildings on campus, using renewable energy, etc.

You might also want to consider checking out Princeton Review's Green Honor Roll, which gives a score of 99 (the highest possible score) to 45 schools for their commitment to environmental sustainability.

Hope this helps! Remember, ultimately, the best university for you will depend on your specific preferences and requirements, away from just sustainability efforts.
