Do a lot of universities offer integrative medicine courses?

I'm really interested in integrative medicine and want to study it in college. But do universities normally offer study programs or majors in this field? Your input would help a lot in planning out my college path. Thanks!

While integrative medicine is a rapidly growing field, it is not typically available as an undergraduate major. You'll usually find this specialization at the graduate level, often in medical schools or institutions that focus on health sciences.

At an undergraduate level, the closest areas of study would probably be degrees in biology, biochemistry, or public health. It could be beneficial for you to take these traditional pre-med routes and then specialize in integrative medicine at a later stage.

It's important to identify and capitalize on the strategy of preparing for this path from undergraduate level even if your institution might not directly offer a major in integrative medicine. Consider taking related coursework in areas such as health promotion, biology, nutrition, and psychology to get a well-rounded foundation in the field.

Additionally, some schools might also offer classes, concentrations, or minors that tie into the principles of integrative medicine. For instance, pursuing a minor in holistic health or taking classes focused on different types of lifespan health or alternative medicine could give you a foundation in this area.

Ultimately, if you're set on practicing integrative medicine as a future physician, the most important thing is to focus on getting a robust undergraduate education in health and life sciences, perform well on the MCAT, and gain acceptance into a medical school that offers a focus in integrative medicine.

Remember, everyone's path will look different, but keeping these elements in mind should assist your planning process.
