Which colleges have a significant Jewish population?

Hi folks, I'm currently in my junior year and starting to consider colleges seriously. As a Jewish student, I'm particularly interested in finding a college where I can maintain my faith and cultural practices. Are there colleges known for having a substantial Jewish population, particularly in Connecticut?

Absolutely, your interest in maintaining your faith and cultural practices in college is important and shared by many students. In Connecticut, there are several universities and colleges with a notable Jewish presence.

Yale University is a notable choice. Rabbi Leah Cohen is the executive director of Slifka Center for Jewish Life at Yale, which offers various services including Shabbat, High Holidays, Passover, as well as events and programs to foster Jewish life on campus.

The University of Connecticut (UConn Storrs' campus) also has an active Jewish community with Hillel UConn being a central hub for Jewish student life. They host Shabbat dinners, host cultural events, and provide opportunities for students to explore Judaism in a variety of ways.

Besides these, Wesleyan University's Jewish community is quite active and provides a full range of Jewish observances, from the strictly traditional to the radically innovative.

Finally, Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, has a vibrant Jewish Student Life, including a Hillel that serves as a center for Jewish culture, religious observance, and expression of all kinds.

When considering colleges, also look at the resources each college offers to support Jewish students. Co-curricular activities like Hillel, Chabad, Jewish clubs, kosher dining availability, and the presence of Jewish fraternities or sororities might also be important to your decision.

Please note that the size of the Jewish population at each school can vary greatly and it would be a good idea to reach out to each college's Jewish student services for more specific numbers. You might also want to consider the overall climate and support for all students at these schools beyond just the Jewish population. Good luck with your college search!
