Serious question: do mature students flock to certain colleges?

I like learning from life experiences of others, and by others, I mean mature students. I believe I can learn a lot from their experiences. Are there any specific colleges known for having a higher percentage of mature students?

Yes, definitely! There are definitely higher education institutions that attract a greater proportion of mature students, usually due to programs that cater specifically to adult learners, flexible scheduling options, or certain academic programs more frequented by mature students returning to education after work experience.

For instance, colleges with strong continuing education or "degree completion" programs typically see a higher number of mature students. These programs are designed for those who have previously earned some college credits but didn't complete a degree, or for those who wish to change careers and need new academic qualifications. Examples of colleges with popular adult learner programs include Columbia University, DePaul University, or Thomas Edison State University.

Colleges that offer primarily online programs also tend to attract more mature students thanks to the flexibility these programs provide. Western Governors University, Southern New Hampshire University, and the University of Phoenix are examples of institutions that cater largely to adult learners through their online platforms.

Community colleges and technical schools also often have more mature students. They accommodate those who are working and might only be able to take classes in the evenings or on weekends.

In the end, it's about looking for schools that offer flexibility, online options, and a curriculum that matches your specific interests or career goals. Connecting with mature students can be a richly rewarding part of your college experience, as they often provide a different perspective and set of experiences. But, it's also key to finding the right fit based on other critical factors, such as academic offerings, financial aid, and campus culture.
