Peace Corps Volunteers and College Choice

Hey folks, I'm seriously considering going into the Peace Corps after graduation and I'm curious to know, are there any colleges that are particularly known for having a lot of their graduates eventually join the Peace Corps?

Absolutely! The Peace Corps actually compiles an annual list of colleges and universities that produce the most Peace Corps volunteers. While this list can change from year to year, there are some institutions that consistently rank high on this list.

The University of Washington often leads the large universities category, with over 70 of their graduates going on to serve in the Peace Corps each year. On the other hand, the University of Wisconsin–Madison typically ranks high, too.

Smaller schools like George Washington University, American University, and the University of Vermont usually lead in the medium-sized colleges category, while St. Olaf College, Gonzaga University and Middlebury College often top the small colleges category.

It's important to note, however, that attending one of these schools isn't a prerequisite for joining the Peace Corps, nor does it guarantee admission to the program. These schools simply have a tradition of many graduates going on to serve. If you're passionate about joining the Peace Corps, focus on building a strong application for that program, possibly by pursuing related coursework or volunteer experiences in college.
