Most scholarship opportunities at Massachusetts colleges

Hello everyone! I'm starting to plan for college applications and Massachusetts is one of the states on my list. I'm hoping to get a good amount of scholarships to fund my studies. Are there specific colleges in Massachusetts that give out a lot of scholarships? If so, which ones?

Definitely, there are several Massachusetts colleges known for their robust scholarship programs:

1. Harvard University: Harvard has an exceptional need-based scholarship program. This scholarship program ensures that financial circumstances aren't a barrier to attending Harvard.

2. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT): MIT is another college that is committed to making education affordable. Their need-based scholarships cover the majority, if not all, of tuition costs for many students. They also don't award athletic scholarships.

3. Boston University: BU offers several merit-based scholarships, like the Trustee Scholarship and Presidential Scholarship which cover full and half tuition, respectively. Additionally, BU provides a number of specialty scholarships like the Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship for students who exemplify Dr. King’s principles through their community service.

4. Williams College: As one of the top liberal arts colleges in the country, Williams is dedicated to making education accessible. Their financial aid is solely need-based and they meet 100% of demonstrated need for all students.

5. Amherst College: Amherst College is another school that is highly committed to supporting students financially. They offer need-based aid and have a no-loan policy, replacing loans with grant aid in financial aid packages.

Remember, to be considered for these scholarship opportunities at each school, you should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and CSS Profile by each school's respective financial aid deadlines.

Furthermore, outside the colleges, Massachusetts also offers state-specific scholarships like the Massachusetts Gilbert Matching Student Grant program and the Christian A. Herter Memorial Scholarship.

Your high school guidance counselor can be quite helpful in identifying these local and state-specific scholarships. Be sure to start applications early and don't forget to check all eligibility criteria before applying. Good Luck!
