Which colleges offer the most foreign language courses?

Hey everyone, I'm really passionate about languages and was wondering which colleges are renowned for their foreign language programs. Planning on majoring in a language and I want an institution where I can dive into multiple languages. Thanks!

If languages are your passion, there are many colleges across the United States where you could immerse yourself in multiple languages. Here are some that stand out:

1. Middlebury College - Middlebury is known for its focus on foreign language education and offers a variety of undergraduate majors in several languages, including but not limited to Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. Middlebury also hosts the well-known Middlebury Language Schools during the summer, which is an intensive immersion program in 11 languages.

2. University of California, Berkeley - UC Berkeley has an extensive range of language programs from the common (French, Spanish) to the less commonly taught (Burmese, Catalan, Yiddish), offering a variety of avenues to explore.

3. Columbia University - Columbia offers an incredible variety of language study opportunities, covering many European, Asian, African, and Middle Eastern languages.

4. Georgetown University - Georgetown has a strong reputation in languages due to its top-tier School of Foreign Service. It offers undergraduate programs in a variety of languages and also has a renowned Center for Language Education and Development (CLED).

All these schools have faculty who are experts in their field and many also offer study abroad programs where you can further indulge your passion for language study. Before choosing, be sure to check out each school’s language departments to see which ones match your interests! Remember, you can also look for colleges with strong programs in linguistics or comparative literature if you're interested in understanding language at a deeper level, in addition to simply studying specific languages.
