Overworked Students in College

I've heard about the notorious workload of some colleges, and how it can sometimes be overwhelming. Are there colleges that have a reputation for overworking their students? If anyone knows which ones, I'd be really grateful. I just want to keep my mental health in check during college.

Absolutely, maintaining your mental health in college is a priority, and understanding the academic pressure of prospective colleges is certainly part of that calculus.

It's important to note that any college can feel intensive based on the program of study, a student's involvement in extracurriculars, personal work style, etc. However, there are indeed some colleges known for their rigor and intense workloads. Here are a few:

1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT): Known for its intense STEM curriculum. Although it is celebrated for its innovative and collaborative environment, MIT students often report high levels of stress.

2. University of Chicago: It has a reputation for its academically rigorous environment. Their unofficial motto, "where fun comes to die" can give a sense of how students feel about the workload.

3. Johns Hopkins University: Particularly for those majoring in pre-med or engineering, the workload can be particularly heavy and competitive.

4. Harvey Mudd College: Known for its intense workload, particularly in STEM fields. It is regularly at the top of the lists for colleges with the most hours of homework per week.

On the bright side, all of these institutions offer resources to help manage academic pressure, including academic advising, mental health resources, and study groups. Also remember, it's not just about the reputation of a college, but about finding the right fit for you acadically and personally. You can thrive anywhere with the right balance and supports in place!
