Looking for colleges with larger senior populations

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I'm trying to figure out which colleges have a larger population of seniors. It's something I've been kinda curious about, since I value mentorship from upperclassmen. Any insights?

Sure, I can provide some guidance on that! Generally, larger schools or research universities tend to have larger senior classes, simply due to their size. For instance, schools like Ohio State University, University of Florida, or Arizona State University would have large senior populations due to their large overall student bodies.

However, note that just because a school has a larger senior population doesn't necessarily mean there will be more opportunities for mentorship. What might be more valuable to look at are the mentorship programs and opportunities that schools offer, which can exist regardless of the size of the senior class.

For example, some colleges have formal "peer mentor" programs where upperclassmen volunteer or work to guide younger students. At some institutions, these mentors are upperclassmen (juniors or seniors) who live in the freshman dorms (like freshman fellows at Duke University). In others, such as MIT, they are upperclassmen who lead workshops or hold office hours to offer academic help in challenging courses.

Moreover, not all mentorship opportunities are academic. Many schools including Columbia University and University of Pennsylvania have career mentoring programs where older students or alumni support younger students in exploring their professional interests.

In sum, while understanding the senior population could be important, also consider researching the specific mentorship programs and opportunities a school offers. This might provide a more accurate picture of the sort of mentorship you could receive at a particular institution.
