What's the top HBCU for biomedical engineering?

Hey guys, I'm pretty set on attending an HBCU for college, and I'm leaning towards Biomedical Engineering as my major. Does anyone have insights on which HBCUs are known for having strong programs in this field? Any advice on the resources and opportunities I should look for in their programs would be super helpful too!

Hello! When it comes to HBCUs with strong biomedical engineering programs, one that stands out is Florida A&M University (FAMU), especially since it offers a joint B.S./M.S. program in biomedical engineering in partnership with Florida State University. This program is designed to provide students with an integrated educational experience that prepares them well for either the industry or further graduate study.

Another commendable option is North Carolina A&T State University, which offers a B.S. in Bioengineering and is known for its research opportunities and hands-on experiences.

As for resources and opportunities, look for programs that provide solid foundational coursework, collaborative research opportunities with faculty, access to state-of-the-art labs and facilities, internships, and co-op programs with biomedical companies. These experiences are integral to building a strong application for jobs or graduate schools post-graduation.

Investigate each program’s partnerships with industry and their research emphases to ensure they align with your interests and career goals. Alumni success in the field can also be a good indicator of the program's strength. I hope this helps you in your search!
