As I'm getting ready to start the college journey, tech choices need to be made. I've seen a lot of recommendations for getting the best, most advanced laptops. Do I need to invest heavily in a high-end laptop for college or would a budget-friendly one get me through just fine too?

While it's true that having a reliable laptop in college is crucial, it doesn't necessarily mean you need a high-end model. The type of laptop you'll need largely depends on your intended major and how you plan to use your laptop.

Let's say you're a humanities or social sciences major. In most cases, you'll primarily be researching online, writing papers, and making some presentations. A budget-friendly laptop should be suitable for these tasks. It would be best to ensure the laptop has a good processor (like an i5), 8GB RAM, and enough storage (a 256GB SSD should suffice). Also, pay attention to the battery life since you'll want a laptop that can last through your classes.

On the other hand, if you're pursuing a major that requires more robust software—like computer science, graphic design, or any engineering field—you'll likely need a laptop with higher specifications. This may include a powerful processor (like an i7), 16GB or more RAM, a dedicated graphics card, and ample storage space.
