Which country has the most women pursuing college degrees in science?

I'm a junior who's super interested in pursuing a degree in science. However, I know that gender disparity is a big issue in the STEM field. Which country has the highest percentage of women studying science at the collegiate level?

According to data from UNESCO, the country with the highest percentage of women pursuing college degrees in the science fields is actually Oman, where roughly 60% of science students are women. This might come as a surprise, given some of the stereotypes about gender roles in the Middle East, but several countries in this region actually show a high participation of women in science education, including the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

However, it also worth mentioning that that these statistics reflect the enrollment in science fields but may not directly translate to employment numbers in the STEM fields. In many countries around the world, including the U.S, even though the number of women studying science in college has increased, there's still a significant gender gap in certain STEM fields, especially at more advanced career levels.

Regardless of these stats, the most important point is to not let gender disparity discourage you from pursuing your passion in science. There are many initiatives in place worldwide aiming to close the gender gap in STEM fields, and by choosing to pursue a science degree, you will be playing a part in balancing the scales.
