In search of colleges that recognize IB credit

Hello folks! I'm an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) student, who is currently a junior. I'm wondering if there’s a list or if anyone knows off the top of their head which universities across the US are good about granting college credit for IB classes. I’ve worked really hard in my classes and I want them to count for something beyond the diploma.

Absolutely! Many universities across the United States recognize the rigor of the IB curriculum and grant college credit for high scores in Higher Level IB courses. However, it's worth noting that how each college grants credit can vary quite a bit based on the course and the score you received.

For instance, Stanford grants up to 45 transfer units for IB scores of 5 or higher in Higher Level IB courses. However, these transfer units may not necessarily be applied towards your major or general education requirements.

On the other hand, Harvard typically only grants advanced standing for IB scores of 7 in Higher Level courses, and these are often on a case-by-case basis.

Then you have schools like the University of Florida that is quite generous in recognizing IB work. They offer up to 30 credit hours for IB students who complete the IB Diploma with scores of 5 or better on both the Higher and Standard Level exams.

Meanwhile, at the University of Texas at Austin you can get credit by exam for a wide range of individual subjects if you achieve certain scores, usually 5, 6, or 7, on either HL or SL exams.

To truly determine which universities would grant the most credit for your IB courses, you would want to look at the admissions or registrar's page on the website of each college you're interested in. Most schools have charts showing exactly what credit they offer for each exam and at what scores.

Remember that while it's great to get college credit and potentially graduate early or take fewer classes, it's also valuable just to be well-prepared for the rigors of college-level work thanks to your IB curriculum. Keep up the good work!
